Another exciting day of golf, with several interesting stories to talk about here. Let’s jump right into it.
At the Buick Open, the big story of the day was Tiger Woods. Of course, that’s no surprise, but Tiger did surprise us by rebounding big time to shoot an incredible 63 for the day, and put himself tied for 5th for the tournament at 10-under par. Quite a step up from the tie for 95th from yesterday.
John Senden is your current leader at 14-under par after shooting a 66 in the second round. Michael Letzig is at 12-under, while Vaughn Taylor and [...]

Ummm…..Tiger Must Be Angry
Is is possible that Tiger Woods could miss a second straight cut? That’s the question we were asking yesterday after the first round of the Buick Open, as he was tied for 95th on the day.
So of course, Tiger comes out and makes us all look like complete morons this morning, as he shot a 30 on his first nine of the day (6-under), and has already added another birdie on the back nine as he through 11 holes for today.
If he keeps at this pace, he could very well break a few records today.
The three big tournaments for the week have kicked off today, with some interesting stories thus far.
At the Buick Open in Grand Blanc, there aren’t exactly household names topping the leaderboard after the first round of the tournament.
Steve Lowery shot a 63 to start off 9-under par, while John Senden is 8 under, and four guys ( Y.E. Yang, James Nitties, Vaughn Taylor, and Brian Vranesh) all shot 65 to stand two shots off the lead.
Meanwhile, Tiger Woods is currently tied for 95th after shooting a 1-under 71 for today’s round.
I’d like to go back to the E:60 piece from Tuesday night that featured LPGA golfer/model Anna Rawson. And I’d like to take a look at the ideas she has for improving the LPGA tour, and see what your thoughts are on these.
Here’s a link to the E:60 video and her ideas over at ESPN.com. Let’s examine the ideas one by one.
TV Coverage for the Week
Here’s a breakdown of the television coverage this week. Should be another exciting week of action, and hopefully the weather will be a little bit better in all three places.
BUICK OPEN
Thursday and Friday
3-6 PM ET on the Golf Channel
Saturday and Sunday
3-6 PM ET on CBS
Another great week of golf is in store for us, as there are great tournaments in both the PGA and LPGA this upcoming weekend.
The Buick Open will be the place for the PGA players this week, held at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
There are two big stores surrounding the Buick this week. With starters, Tiger Woods has committed to play in this year’s tournament, so that brings about some buzz heading into the first round tomorrow.
The Great Tiger Debate
So yeah, this topic is a little bit old, but considering that we’ve had plenty of things to talk about in the past week (Tom Watson, Stewart Cink, Greg Norman’s 54-hole lead at Sunningdale, Evian Masters, and so on), now is a good time to discuss it.
Unless you live under a rock, you probably know that Tiger Woods missed the cut at the British Open. If you didn’t know that, well, I’m glad to be the one to break the news to you.
But even though Tiger’s missing the cut was monumental in and of itself, another hot Tiger topic has [...]
Phil Mickelson Returning
It was reported today that Phil Mickelson will be making his return at the Bridgestone Invitational here in a few weeks.
Mickelson has been out of action for a while due to the fact that his wife and his mother are both battling breast cancer.
It’s good to see Phil getting back out on the course, but he could take as much time off as he wanted, and we golf fans probably wouldn’t mind due to circumstances he and his family are facing.
Hopefully the return to the course will give him a little time to ease his mind. Best of luck to [...]
Anna Rawson on E:60….Right Now
I had no idea Anna Rawson was going to be on ESPN’s E:60 tonight, as the show is currently airing right now.
If you don’t know who Anna Rawson is, go here.
The story with her in it is going to talk about the subject I wrote about earlier today discussing LPGA modeling and it’s impact on the game, and whether that impact is good or bad.
Rawson is one of the people I’m talking about when we discuss the ladies doing modeling and promoting themselves and the game. Needless to say though, she’s been a tad bit more controversial than others with [...]
LPGA Modeling: Yes or No?
After reading the August edition of Golf Magazine, the most interesting article in the publication was by Alan Shipnuck that discussed LPGA players using their sex appeal to market themselves and the game of golf.
You can the read the entire piece over at Golf.com, or just check out your Golf Magazine if you subscribe.
This topic isn’t new by any means. Golf fans have discussed this for years. And this is an intriguing topic for many different reasons. There’s no right answer in my opinion, as both sides can provide good arguments.
(Before we get started, let me first refer you back to my RBC Canadian Open predictions. Oh, Retief. You nearly made me look somewhat intelligent. But hey, at least I was close, right?)
Playoff at the Evian Masters? Check.
Playoff at the Senior British Open? Oh yeah.
Playoff at the RBC Canadian Open? That’s right.
It’s Monday morning, so it’s once again time to hit the links. “Hitting the Links” is a series here on the blog where we take a look back at the weekend’s action and look at some of the best stories out there.
This will be an abbreviated edition due to the fact that the RBC Canadian Open is still in progress.
