Looking Back at the Barclays
It’s Monday, so let’s talk about the golf action that took place over the weekend at the Barclays in New Jersey. Trading Places So be honest, who really thought that Heath Slocum would be the one that would come out of the final round as the winner? He had four guys behind him that are all stars of the game, but yet Slocum hit the putt on 18 that I gave him no chance of hitting.
Got a chance to watch most of the action today at Liberty National, as I’ve been under the weather the last couple of days, so I haven’t felt like doing much except for laying around and watching golf. So again, sorry if this post is short. I definitely wasn’t let down today though, as Heath Slocum did the unthinkable, and sank a huge putt on the 18th hole to win the Barclays. And in the process, he held off the likes of Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington, and Ernie Els to do so.
Barclays Third Round/Safeway Classic Second Round Recap
Quick update today, so I apologize for it not being of great length. Steve Marino and Paul Goydos are your leaders at 9-under par, after both had some great rounds today. Tiger Woods is only five shots back at 4-under, and will certainly be lurking behind the leaders tomorrow evening.
Barclays/Safeway Classic Friday Evening Update
With the ladies playing on the west coast this week, and the men playing on the east coast, the times aren’t exactly evening up in terms of when play ends at both tournaments each day. So there is golf still being played at both tournaments right now (as of 5:50 CT), therefore I will just recap what has gone on thus far today in the world of professional golf.
Preview and Quick Picks: Safeway Classic
With the Safeway Classic getting underway today at Pumpkin Ridge, I thought I’d offer up a few predictions for this week. Hopefully the LPGA can carry over some momentum from the Solheim Cup and make this yet another great tournament for the women’s game. The field is certainly strong, with pretty much all of the big names competing in the Safeway this year, including the players from both Solheim Cup teams. So needless to say, the world’s best will be competing for the trophy this year.
The Barclays – Round 1 Recap
Well action for the day has completed at Liberty National in New Jersey, with some fairly low scores being posted on the round. It seems that Sergio Garcia has forgot about that rough final round last week at the Wyndham, as he shares the lead at 6-under par with Steve Marino and Paul Goydos. We all sort of wondered how Sergio would bounce back after that final round struggle last week, which concluded with the bunker shot that sort of rolled all the way around the hole before stopping an inch short. But it seems as though he has answered [...]
TV Schedule – Barclays, Safeway Classic, U.S. Amateur
Well, it’s about time for the FedEx Cup playoffs to get underway in New Jersey, as The Barclays is the first tournament in the series, while the women are in Oregon this week for the Safeway Classic. Also, the U.S. Amateur got underway yesterday, and is definitely a big tournament in the golfing world, so I’ll include the schedule for that in here as well. Here’s a look at the TV schedule for the week:
Predictions: The Barclays
It’s almost time for the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs to get underway, with The Barclays getting started tomorrow morning at Liberty National in New Jersey. Therefore, it’s Wednesday, and we all know what time it is: prediction time! With that in mind, let’s get it started:
Jim Mora, LPGA's Success, and Poulter's Website
Tuesday is just one of those days. All the talk about the previous weekend’s action is starting to fade, and we haven’t really kicked in to full-fledged hype on the upcoming week’s action. My solution to this? To talk about a whole lot of stuff. Instead of narrowing it down to one topic today, let’s take a look at several interesting things going on in golf.
The "New" Michelle Wie?
Let me start off by saying this: The Solheim Cup was pretty exciting. There. I said it. Say what you want about women’s golf, and make all the statements you want about the future of the game. There was excitement in the air, and the fans loved it. I was glued to the TV for pretty much the entire week, but especially during the singles matches yesterday. And this was a tournament you may want to remember. One of the main reasons why you may want to remember this year’s installment is because of the breakout performance by Michelle Wie.
Cruel and Unusual Punishment: The Sergio Garcia Edition
Well, the Wyndham Championship has concluded in Greensboro, with Ryan Moore winning in a three-way playoff over Kevin Stadler, and Jason Bohn. Bohn was eliminated after the first playoff hole, while Moore finally took advantage on the third playoff hole after an errant tee shot by Stadler. The win was the first of Moore’s PGA career, and simply put, he made the shots he had to make to win the championship. Though Bohn shot an unbelievable 8-under for the final round, Moore’s final round of 65 gave him a shot in the playoff, and he was able to close the [...]
U.S. Wins the 2009 Solheim Cup
After an exciting and golf-filled three days in Chicago, the United States has defeated the Europeans to win the Solheim Cup, by a final score of 16-12. Morgan Pressel was the one who officially locked down the cup for the United States, as she won her match with Anna Nordqvist 3 & 2 which sealed it for the ladies from America. One of the big stories of the day without question was the play of Michelle Wie. She started off the day on a hot streak, and eventually settled for a 1 up win over the veteran Helen Alfredsson.
