Did you really think anyone would come blazing towards the top of the leaderboard, and overtake Tiger Woods as the leader of the PGA Championship after the second round?
If you did, well, it didn’t happen.
Woods had a pretty decent day by his standards. He finished with a 2-under 70, bogeying his first hole of the day, and his last.
He opened the door for Padraig Harrington to cut the lead down to three shots on the 18th hole, but Harrington missed a par putt, and he had to settle for bogey. So again, like always, Tiger’s mistakes don’t really turn out to hurt him all that much.
A few players had big days, and at least put themselves into contention heading into the weekend. My underdog pick this week, Ross Fisher, shot a 68 today, putting him four shots back of Woods.
Lucas Glover and Brendan Jones both shot 70 on the day, and they also sit at 3-under, along with Harrington, Fisher, and Vijay Singh.
Ian Poulter (sleeper pick) and Lee Westwood are five shots back at 2-under par for the championship.
Ernie Els also had an impressive day, shooting 4-under par, to put him at 1-under.
Other notables:
Robert Allenby -1
Geoff Ogilvy, Tim Clark, David Toms, Rory McIlroy, Kenny Perry (my pick to win this week), Hunter Mahan E
Angel Cabrera, Stewart Cink, Camilo Villegas +2
Anthony Kim, Rich Beem, Zach Johnson +3
Phil Mickelson (and about 19 others) +4

QUICK NOTES:
- Tiger looks like he is going to make this tournament a runaway. At this point, I honestly can’t see anyone playing well enough to make up the deficit right now. It would take Tiger playing some really bad golf for that to happen.
- J.B. Holmes withdrew due to a hand injury. Not sure as to the severity of it yet.
- How about Ernie? It would sure be nice to see him get his game back on track, and at least make a run at Tiger this weekend. It would bring back some fond Tiger vs. Ernie memories.
- And let’s not count out the other veteran, Vijay Singh. A showdown with Tiger would sort of revive his career a little bit, as he’s had a down season thus far.
Well hopefully we’ll get a little suspense tomorrow, as I’m sure there will be somebody trying to sneak up on Tiger.
Have a great night everyone!
