Current FedEx Cup Standings…..If You Care

AUTHOR: Blake Lovell | IN: Deutsche Bank Championship | COMMENTS: 2 Comments |

We talked yesterday about the confusing mess that is the FedEx Cup playoffs, with the next tournament being the Deutsche Bank Championship, which gets underway on Friday (yeah, I had to edit this because I forgot this is a Fri-Mon tournament) .

Here’s a link to the updated FedEx Cup standings over at Golf.com.

The top five should come as no surprise really, because as Heath Slocum showed this past weekend, all you need is one win to move up 121 spots in the standings.

1. Tiger Woods 4,381 points

2. Steve Stricker 3,105 points

3. Heath Slocum 2,855 points

4. Zach Johnson 2, 229 points

5. Kenny Perry 2,075 points

And also, I’ll refer you back to the changes that were made last year concerning the whole playoff system. I’ve read it, and attempted to understand it, so at least give it a try. There’s several other links on that PGATour.com page that will give you a little better understanding as well.

The fact of the matter is, PGA fans seem to be in the same boat when it comes to this system. They either don’t understand it, or don’t see the need for it. If you have a different opinion, I’d love to hear it, because most of the people I talk to don’t really care for the PGA playoffs one bit.

We already have four major championships, which is the perfect amount. Golf has gotten that part right. But having four more tournaments in what is supposedly a “playoff” format is just too much in my own personal opinion.

If you were on the tour, would you rather win the British Open or the FedEx Cup playoffs?

I know which one I’d choose.

  1. The Players Championship should be the final tournament of the season. I love the fact that the FedEx tourneys on are on the East Coast. No West Coast love at all.

Definitely no west coast love from the PGA. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but then again, that pretty much sums up this entire FedEx Cup playoff system.
