The Presidents Cup teams are now set, as U.S. captain Fred Couples and Intl. captain Greg Norman announced their captain’s picks today.
Nothing surprising at all on the side of the United States, as Hunter Mahan and Lucas Glover were obvious choices on that side. Both guys have played outstanding golf this season, and will easily help the U.S. when the cup rolls around in October.
However, a questionable pick was made on the other side, as Norman chose the young phenom Ryo Ishikawa and…..Adam Scott.
Needless to say, Scott hasn’t had his best season. He’s missed more cuts than he’s made this year, and it’s not like he’s even been playing his best golf lately. But that was Norman’s pick.
While I’ll agree with Norman’s point about Scott being ranked as high as third in the world last year, he sure as heck isn’t third in the world this year. He does have the talent, and perhaps the team atmosphere will bring out the best in him like it did for Michelle Wie last month at the Solheim Cup. At this point though, I’d say that’s a stretch.
But we’ll see what happens. Norman will probably gain a little criticism over the next few days though, so he better be ready for that.
