Interesting Thoughts on Michelle Wie

I was browsing the blogosphere today, and saw this post by Ryan Ballengee over at Waggle Room.

It basically discusses a newspaper article on Michelle Wie which states that Wie is somewhat arrogant and kind of unfriendly to volunteers at tournaments. I’m not sure what to think of this honestly.

On one hand, if this is a reporter seeing her for the first time, how does he know that she’s always like this? What if she simply didn’t have the time to sign autographs or other things like that?

This is one of the problems I have with the media in general. You can’t just make some bold statement and think that you completely know everything after seeing something one time. So I hope the guy that covered this tournament had been in contact with Wie before at another event, because if not, he can’t base one little incident or whatever on Wie’s entire body of work.

This is common among golfers. Tiger is notorius for “ignoring” fans. Part of being an athlete is staying focus at the task at hand, winning a golf tournament. Not everyone has the personality like Phil or Rocco.

Yeah I agree. The media, for some odd reason, seems to think that every athlete in the world has an outgoing personality.
