Whan is Your New LPGA Commissioner
Well most of the talk this LPGA season has been about finding a new commissioner that would lead the tour after Carolyn Bivens was pretty much shown the door after the LPGA continued to lose some of its sponsors under her watch. The search for a new commissioner has come to an end, and Michael Whan will be your new commissioner.
I guess at this point, it doesn’t really matter who the person is, it just has to be the focus of getting things done. The LPGA can’t continue to lose sponsors, and they have to find new ways of marketing themselves.
They simply can’t rely on tradition anymore. They have to find new and creative ways to market the players that are on the tour. People such as Anna Rawson and Christina Kim have both brought about new ways of promoting the sport, and these are things that Whan has to keep in mind.
While it won’t be a quick turnaround, the LPGA has to start heading in the right direction again. And I hope Whan can be the man to lead them in that direction.
