Barron Suspended For Violating PGA Tour Drug Policy
Some of you may not have even known that the PGA has any type of serious drug policy in place. Well, now you do. Doug Barron became the first player to be suspended by the tour, as he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
This comes as a little bit of a surprise, because after all, the PGA Tour policy isn’t exactly the strict policy that you see in other sports, such as baseball or football. We don’t know exactly what the substance was, since the PGA doesn’t announce that kind of thing when a player is suspended.
Of course, as Stewart Cink said in his quote in that story, it could have something to do with past medications or something like that, but who knows. Sometimes you never really know all the different types of substances that make up certain medicines, so I would like to think that probably had something to do with it.
All in all, is this a big deal? I don’t think so. It’s not like Barron is a top ten player in the world, so one would even have to question just how much of an advantage he got from whatever this substance was.
I think we can probably attribute this more to health issues and taking certain medications than someone trying to get ahead in the golfing world.
