The Golden Bear Speaks on Tiger

As the Tiger Woods stories continue to mount up, well, we’ve pretty much got no choice but to bring you a whole lot of coverage about it. With this being a slow time of year on the course, I suppose we should thank Tiger for giving us something to talk about. Of course, I would rather have nothing to talk about than see this guy’s popularity drifting into a downward spiral. But, we move on.

It was just a matter of time before some of the golfing legends starting speaking on the whole Tiger incident. Jack Nicklaus came out yesterday and talked about the situation for the first time:

“Our public is pretty forgiving at times. Time usually heals all wounds. I think the hardest thing is obviously his family. That’s a private matter for him and his family.”

Jack basically believes that none of this really concerns him, and that this is all Tiger’s business to take care. And well, he’s right. While we may be led to believe that this is a public matter that we should know every little detail about, that’s not true at all. It’s a matter that Tiger and his family have to get through, and doesn’t involve any of us in the grand scheme of things.

Sure, opinions will change because of this, but like Nicklaus said, it’s really none of our business. Unfortunately for Tiger though, this is an era in the media where everything is fair game, and everything is everyone’s business. Fair or unfair, that’s the way it works. This story will likely never die, as bits and pieces will continue to come out and new details will continue to be brought to the forefront.

It’ll be interesting to hear some of the other reactions from golfing legends, as I’m sure a few of them will have some intriguing takes on this situation as well.
