With all the hype heading into the Farmers Insurance Open being focused on the return of Phil Mickelson to the course for the first time in 2010, we should have known that someone would fly in under the radar and take the lead after day one at Torrey Pines. And that person was Scott Piercy.

A lot of talk has been made heading into this PGA Tour season about the new wedges that have to be used in order to comply with the new rule put in place. Well, there have been some rumors going around that Phil Mickelson is thinking about using his old wedges for this week’s event.

When we all found out that Tiger Woods would be taking a leave of absence, there was a lot of talk about who could be the young guy that would step up in his place, and have a great year on the tour. While I think there will be a young player that will breakout, there’s still another guy that I think will have the biggest year. And that’s Phil Mickelson.

Some good news for fans of the women’s game, as Michelle Wie has committed to play the first LPGA event of the new year, which starts February 18 in Thailand.

Despite the fact that there were some pretty good players right on his tail at the final round of the Sony Open, Ryan Palmer found a way to pick up the victory in Hawaii, by holding off Robert Allenby.

The third round of the Sony Open gets underway today in beautiful Hawaii, and the leader may not be a name you recognize. Ryan Palmer is your current leader at 9-under, but there’s some very recognizable names not far behind.

Well with all the bad mainstream coverage that golf has been getting with the whole Tiger Woods mess, they’ll get some other stars in the spotlight next week, as Rocco Mediate, Natalie Gulbis, and Duffy Waldorf will be appearing on ‘CSI’ on January 21.

Well, I just knew I was going to put all the pressure on Lucas Glover with my post yesterday, in which I gloated about picking him to win the tournament. So of course, Glover fades in the final round, and none other than Geoff Ogilvy steps up to claim the victory.

I really don’t want to jinx it right here, but that just may happen. I picked Lucas Glover to win the SBS Championship, and heading into the final round, that pick is looking pretty good right now. Glover has a one-shot lead over Geoff Ogilvy in Kapalua.

Well golf fans, the new year (and decade) has begun, and we now prepare for the first tournament of the season to get started tomorrow, as the SBS Championship gets going at Kapalua.

Yesterday, I made my 2010 predictions for the PGA Tour. Today, it’s time to shift focus to the ladies, and make my predictions for what could be one of the biggest years in the history of women’s golf.

The New Year is upon us, and with that comes another exciting year of professional golf. While the golf calendar does tend to start a little slow, the sport always starts hitting its’ momentum once the Masters rolls around in April. So trust me folks, we’ve got some good golf coming up soon enough.
