The New Year is upon us, and with that comes another exciting year of professional golf. While the golf calendar does tend to start a little slow, the sport always starts hitting its’ momentum once the Masters rolls around in April. So trust me folks, we’ve got some good golf coming up soon enough.
But for now, it’s time to make our predictions for the new year. So without any further ado, here are ten of my predictions for the year 2010 in the PGA. Tomorrow, I’ll be making my 2010 predictions for the LPGA, so get ready for those as well!
1. Tiger Woods will play in 2010, but it’ll be at least June before he returns. He’ll go without a major win though.
2. The young player who steps up in Tiger’s absence will be none other than Anthony Kim. Kim is coming off of a strong end to 2009, and will keep that momentum going into the new year.
3. Adam Scott will prove that his excellent finish to 2009 was no fluke. He, and his game, are back for good.
4. Speaking of building on late-season success, Phil Mickelson will also win a major in 2010, and will add a PGA Tour Player of the Year trophy to his collection as well.
5. The most exciting tournament of the year will be the British Open at St. Andrews, followed closely by the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.
6. Henrik Stenson will once again strip down to his undies, but not because he hit a ball near the water. He’ll do it just for the fun of it.
7. After winning his first major in 2009, Lucas Glover will add another this year. Masters, anyone?
8. While we had some great Tiger Woods vs. Padraig Harrington showdowns in 2009, 2010 will be remembered for the memorable showdowns between Mickelson and Steve Stricker.
9. Rory McIlroy will have several top ten finishes this season, but will be unable to capture a victory.
10. Despite all the Tiger worries, 2010 will be remembered as the year that new stars were made. A handful of guys will break through, and become household names.
Now it’s your turn golf fans! What are some of your predictions for the 2010 PGA Tour season?
