Predictions for the SBS Championship

Well golf fans, the new year (and decade) has begun, and we now prepare for the first tournament of the season to get started tomorrow, as the SBS Championship gets going at Kapalua.

Starting next week, I’ll go back to my original format for predictions, but for this week, we’ll just have quick picks for this tournament. I want to see how certain players play this week, which will give us a little more detail as to who is playing well to start the year, and help us go a little more in-depth as to individually breaking down each player’s chances.

So for now, here’s a few quick predictions for the SBS Championship:

Tournament Sleeper

I think you’ve got to go with Nick Watney here. People knew who Watney was by the end of last season, and he seemed to be one of the most improved players on tour throughout the year.

Tournament Favorites

Here’s my top four favorites: Steve Stricker, Zach Johnson, Kenny Perry, and Lucas Glover.

Tournament Winner

As you saw in my 2010 predictions, I think this could be a big year for Glover. He was very enjoyable to watch last year, and picked up his first major at the U.S. Open, en route to a great season on tour. Glover could be this year’s breakout star, and I think he starts the year off on the right foot, and picks up the win at Kapalua.
