Ogilvy Wins the SBS Championship

Well, I just knew I was going to put all the pressure on Lucas Glover with my post yesterday, in which I gloated about picking him to win the tournament. So of course, Glover fades in the final round, and none other than Geoff Ogilvy steps up to claim the victory.

In case you had forgotten, Ogilvy also won this tournament last year, which obviously gave him a little edge entering Sunday. Ogilvy is certainly one of the better golfers on tour, and even though he wasn’t really in contention to win a major championship last year, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have the talent to do so. Maybe this is just what he needed.

As for Glover, it was not the prettiest of days for him, despite the fact that the tournament was played in Kapalua. He closed with a final round 76, and which put him all the way back at 14th to finish the championship. Probably not the best way to end your week, especially after playing so well the first two days.

Ogilvy wasn’t the only one with a chance to take home the championship though, as Rory Sabbatini made a strong surge yesterday, closing off his week with a 63, and only falling one shot short of Ogilvy’s final score of 22-under par. Casual golf fans probably know Sabbatini more for his talk about Tiger than his actual golf game, but he can be pretty dangerous when he gets it going. You can check out the final leaderboard here.

All in all, it was a good way to start the season, and it was nice to see some guys picking right up where they left off to end last year. Hopefully Glover can forget that final round, and play some better golf in the coming weeks.

For Ogilvy, his year couldn’t have started any better. Congrats to Ogilvy on a job well done!
