The third round of the Sony Open gets underway today in beautiful Hawaii, and the leader may not be a name you recognize. Ryan Palmer is your current leader at 9-under, but there’s some very recognizable names not far behind.
Palmer opened with a 65 on Thursday, and kept right on pace on Friday, shooting a 66, which gives him a one shot lead heading into today. The group that’s behind him? Robert Allenby, Chad Campbell, and Zach Johnson are all currently at 8-under par, with the always dangerous Steve Stricker two shots off the lead.
With those guys chasing the lead, you can bet that we’ll be in for an interesting day on the course today, and it should be a great finish tomorrow. Johnson has really started the season well, and Stricker doesn’t seem to have lost a step since that great run last season.
We’ll see if Palmer can hang on for the victory, but with the crew that’s trailing behind him, it definitely won’t be easy. We should see some great golf the next two days!
