Some good news for fans of the women’s game, as Michelle Wie has committed to play the first LPGA event of the new year, which starts February 18 in Thailand.
It’s also good to see that Wie will play the following week as well at the HBSC Women’s Champions tournament. Let’s say Wie wins the first tournament of the year, and then makes a run and wins the second tournament of the year. That would be the perfect way to kick off the new transition in the LPGA under new commissioner Michael Whan.
In what could certainly be a make or break year for the LPGA, it’s good to see that Wie will start the year off on the course, which could potentially help build up the future tournaments, especially if the finds a way to win in Thailand.
While this story may not seem much, the results could mean a whole lot for this tour. Having a season start with a Wie win would build some momentum heading into the next few tournaments, and Wie could have that breakout year that a lot of people expect her to have.
So have no fear LPGA fans, the new season is almost here!
