Phil to Play at Torrey Pines

When we all found out that Tiger Woods would be taking a leave of absence, there was a lot of talk about who could be the young guy that would step up in his place, and have a great year on the tour. While I think there will be a young player that will breakout, there’s still another guy that I think will have the biggest year. And that’s Phil Mickelson.

Phil will play his first tourney of the year at the Farmers Insurance Open next week in San Diego. It will definitely be different to see a golf tournament being played at Torrey Pines without Tiger, but Phil has had past success there, so perhaps he can win his first tournament of the year.

I predicted that Phil would be the player of the year on tour in 2010, so it would be nice to see him start the season off with a victory. Even without Tiger, the PGA can still rally behind a guy like Phil Mickelson, and with the way he ended last season, he might have some great golf ahead in this new year.

So I’m not going to say that Phil will definitely win at Torrey Pines, but I think he has a great start, and finishes in the top five.
