A lot of talk has been made heading into this PGA Tour season about the new wedges that have to be used in order to comply with the new rule put in place. Well, there have been some rumors going around that Phil Mickelson is thinking about using his old wedges for this week’s event.
And when we say old, we do mean old. As in before 1990. So I guess the question now becomes how big of a deal is this? Well, as it states in the report, both John Daly and Dean Wilson did the same thing last week, but that’s somewhat of a different magnitude. This would be arguably the top player in the game right now (with the absence of Tiger Woods) going against the new groove rule.
I seriously that doubt that Phil is going to do this, but we’ll see. If it is not technically against the rules (although it is…..confusing huh?), it pretty much comes down to a matter of choice. The other guys on the tour won’t like it, but there isn’t a whole lot that the tour can do about it.
We’ll see what happens, but I don’t see this being a big deal, because I don’t see Phil using the old wedges. But again, only time will tell.
