It’s a different kind of week in professional golf, as this week, we get a March Madness-like feel to the game, as the Accenture Match-Play Tournament. For those who don’t know how it works, it’s a 64-man field, and it’s nothing but head-to-head matches the entire way. Basically, it makes for some really fun golf, and even if you don’t watch other tournaments on a regular basis, this is one you’ll want to see.
Here’s the link to the official tournament bracket for the action, which gets underway tomorrow (instead of the usual Thursday start date for golf tournaments).
My quick overview of best first-round matches, and intriguing possibilities for the second round:
Best of the First Round
Robert Karlsson vs. Rory Sabbatini
Ian Poulter vs. Justin Leonard
Angel Cabrera vs. Adam Scott
Lee Westwood vs. Chris Wood (love this kid’s potential)
Camilo Villegas vs. Dustin Johnson
Vijay Singh vs. Tim Clark
Alvaro Quiros vs. Mike Weir
Intriguing Second Round Possibilities
Steve Stricker vs. Ryo Ishikawa
Padraig Harrington vs. Anthony Kim
Ian Poulter vs. Angel Cabrera
Sergio Garcia vs. Lucas Glover
Ernie Els vs. Retief Goosen
Henrik Stenson vs. Y.E. Yang
Jim Furyk vs. Hunter Mahan

Again, even if you don’t follow golf on a weekly basis, make sure not to miss this one. Tomorrow, I’ll give you my predictions on who will take home the championship!
