We’ve made it to the final eight at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, which should make for some pretty exciting golf taking place these next few days. Here’s a few predictions for today’s action.
(Please note: if you’d like to see how “great” my predictions are, just click here. Or if you’d still like to believe that I have any clue what I’m talking about when it comes to pro golf, then please don’t click.)
Thongchai Jaidee vs. Ian Poulter
I really didn’t think that Poulter would make it this far, but this is usually what happens when I pick against Ian Poulter. Jaidee has certainly been a surprise in making it this far, but Poulter’s confidence is riding high right now, and he may be my favorite to when the whole thing at this point. Winner: Poulter.
Sergio Garcia vs. Oliver Wilson
Sergio! A lot of people were on the Garcia bandwagon before this thing started, but I wasn’t one of them. He’s played some fine golf these past few days though, and the golfing world would certainly like to see him in the finals, as he and Cink are the two most recognizable names left in this thing. Wilson will keep it close, but Garcia gets it done. Winner: Garcia.
Retief Goosen vs. Camilo Villegas
Goosen is just hitting the ball so well right now, that he may ought to be one of the favorites that are left. I like the power that both of these guys have, but this one will all come down to putting. This is the toughest one to choose, but I’ll say that Goosen wins in extra holes. Winner: Goosen.
Paul Casey vs. Stewart Cink
What a fantastic matchup this will be, and this will certainly have a match play championship-type feel to it. Casey has been on an absolute roll this week, but you can never count out Cink. This will be a place where Cink steps up to the challenge, as most think Casey will keep rolling along in dominant fashion. Cink wins. Winner: Cink.
Should be an exciting day in Marana!
