With U.S. captain Corey Pavin already announcing his vice captains for the 2010 Ryder Cup, it was European captain Colin Montgomerie‘s turn to name the men that will be alongside him in the captain’s role. Those men will be Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjorn, and Paul McGinley.
These are some nice selections from Montgomerie, as the Europeans look to take back the trophy from the U.S. side, after they picked up the win in 2008 at Valhalla. You can compare Monty’s selections to Pavin’s vice captain selections for the U.S. side, which were Davis Love III, Paul Goydos, Tom Lehman, and Jeff Sluman. The biggest similarity I see is that all of these guys know how to play some great golf. So that should bode well for both sides.
As of right now, I’d say that the European team is probably in prime position to take back the trophy, as they will probably have a more impressive lineup from top to bottom. But we’ve still got a ways to go, and there’s no doubt that the teams will be shuffled up quite a bit before the selections are made by both captains.
The 2010 edition of the cup will be held at Celtic Manor, and will get started on October 1.
