Ryder Cup:Team Europe Set

European Ryder Cup Captain Jose Maria Olazabal has made his picks, and the line up the Americans will face at Medinah is now set. His selections were Nicolas Colsaerts from Belgium, and Ian Poulter from England. Colsaerts was in ninth position on the European Points list, but was not on the World Points list. Poulter was on neither list.

I always felt Colsaerts(The Muscles from Brussels) was a no brainer pick, the coin toss was Poulter vs Padraig Harrington. Harrington and Olazabal were not on the best of terms anyway, and then he didn’t perform well at the Barclays. His first round 64 ballooned to 75 for Friday and Saturdays rounds, and even with a Sunday score of 3 under 68 only got him back to -2, 8 strokes behind tournament winner Nick Watney.

Nicolas Colsaerts will be a Ryder Cup rookie, but Ian Poulter has four appearances with two wins and a total of eight points won. Harrington was showing signs of reclaiming his game, but was very erratic at times. While Ian Poulter played at The Barclays last weekend, and finished at even par, Colsaerts played the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, and finished with even par and tied for nineteenth place.

The remainder of Team Europe are Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell from Northern Ireland, Luke Donald, Justin Rose and Lee Westwood from England, Sergio Garcia from Spain, Peter Hanson from Sweden, Martin Kaymer from Germany, Paul Lawrie from Scotland, and Francisco Molinari from Italy.

American Captain Davis Love III will make his selections next Tuesday.
