Ryan Moore fired a first round 61 at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals For Children tournament on Friday afternoon. The 30 year old pro from Puyallup, Washington, who played his collegiate golf locally at UNLV made an Eagle 2 at the par 4 15th hole to snatch the lead away from clubhouse leader Brandon DeJong. He had only one bogey on his score card to go along with 9 birdies. Add in the Eagle, and you get to 10 under par. Moore started his day on the back nine, and until the bogey at the 8th hole, was flirting with a 59.
As most of the top notch players are taking a break from the gruelling schedule that included the FedEx Cup playoffs, and Ryder Cup, Team USA Captain Davis Love III is getting back to playing golf. Davis shot an opening round 68, and is 7 strokes back. Davis hit some nice shots on his way to a bogey free round, and is currently 106th on the money list. He needs to finish well in this tournament, and not fall out of the top 125.
The Justin Timberlake provides the opportunity for players needing to make up ground on the Money List before the season ends. The field is fairly strong, and includes some very good players who are trying to pad their stats before seasons end. Those playing at Las Vegas include Nick Watney, John Daly, and VJ Singh. Watney and Singh are at 5 under par, five shots back and Daly is two under.
Defending champion Kevin Na is also seven shots back at 3 under par.
