Fred Funk shot a 3 under par 69 on Sunday to beat Duffy Waldorf by one stroke at The Greater Hickory Classic Golf Tournament. The 56 year old golfer from Tacoma Park, Maryland birdied the 18th hole on the par 72 Rock Barn and Spa course in Conover, North Carolina for a 15 under par, three day total of 201.
Honorary Chairman for this tournament is former Nascar legend and father of Dale Jarrett, Ned Jarrett, for the weekend events. The Hickory Classic had a purse of $1.6 Million with a winner’s prize of $240,000. The 7046 yard Jones Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The defending Champion Mark Wiebe finished alone in 3rd place 5 strokes back at 10 under par.
This was Fred’s second win on the Champions Tour this year, he won The Insperity Championship back in May, and in 19 events this season has three top 3 finishes and eight top 10’s to go along with those wins. He has won a tad over $1.2 Million to add to his career total of almost $30 Million Dollars. He played his college golf at The University of Maryland, and was a collegiate instructor at his Alma Mater.
