Ernie Els was just able to get over par Thursday and will make the cut at the Qatar Masters.
Els was playing par for the course all throughout both his first and second rounds until the seventeenth hole which he birded and put him in a tie for 58th at -1. It is just enough to get him over the cut line.
He has had some trouble lately to be honest. He finished only -2 at Abu Dhabi, which was only good enough for a tie of 38th. Els has done a good job keeping under par, but he has not exploded like you would like to see him do.
Els will need to have a very good Friday and Saturday if he wishes to have any chance at winning the tournament. More likely, he will work to climb the leaderboard and land in the top 20 instead.
He is the 2005 champion of this tournament.
