Well this was unexpected.

Phil Mickelson, who has had some trouble with his taxes over the past couple weeks, is doing rather well in Arizona so far. He recorded a -11, and actually holds a four shot lead over four other players at -7. Included in those four is Bradnt Snedeker, a player that has been great over the past few weeks.

Mickelson has been a worrisome topic to many golf pundits and experts recently. He has been making news for the wrong reasons, while not producing quality results while on the course. He had finished 37th in the Humana Challenge and tied for 57th at the Farmers Insurance Open. Now that he is four strokes ahead, it is realistic that he finishes 1st.

That we will have to wait and see.

His competition this weekend, besides the aforementioned Snedeker, is Ryan Palmer. Palmer recorded a great score at the Humana Challenge two weeks ago. He came away in 6th place, and took home a big league paycheck of $194,600. He will do so again if he is able to keep his success.

Other players tied for second place is Padraig Harrington and Ted Porter Jr.

Round two will start early tomorrow morning.
