With most of Golf’s top players on The European Tour engaged in action in Florida this weekend, there will be no action this week on the Sunshine Tour. Last weeks event, The Tshwane Open was won by Dawie Van der Walt. The South African fired a -5 under par 67 on Sunday for a two shot win over Darren Fitchardt, and three strokes over Louis DeJager. All three are form South Africa. American, Peter Uihlein finished fourth.
When the European tour resumes action next week, they will leave Africa, and head to India for the Avantha Masters that will tee off on March 14th at the Jaypee Greens Country Club in Delhi. The tour will continue throughout the Pacific in preparations leading up to the Masters next month at Augusta.
The break finds some interesting names at the top of the Race To Dubai points standings. Richard Sterne sits atop the list after a good showing at the Dubai Desert Classic, a win at The Joburg Open, and a respectful showing at the Accenture Match Play Championship. Scott Jamieson, Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, and Jamie Donaldson round out the top five. Ian Poulter finds himself in eighth position.
Richard Sterne’s fine play has earned him a trip to South Florida this week, along with a healthy field of players from the Sunshine Tour. The WGC-Accenture Match Play Championships, and The WGC-Cadillac Championship produce FedEx Cup Points,as well as Race To Dubai Points. Sterne lost in the second round at Dove Mountain to finalist, Hunter Mahan.
