Although I have been thoroughly pleased with the golf I’ve seen this week at the Cadillac Championship, the one player who I would have loved to see test his game against the best golfers in the world at The Blue Monster, is Brandt Snedeker. The 2012 FedEx Cup Champion, and current FedEx points leader has been incognito since his win at Pebble Beach, citing rib injuries sustained at the Humana Challenge.
The 32 year old from the home of Country Music, was the hottest player on any tour throughout the spring session on the West Coast swing. Before collecting a trophy, 500 FedEx points, and a ton of cash in Monterey, Snedeker finished as a bridesmaid to Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines, and Phil Mickelson in Phoenix. He also finished alone in third place at the season opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions. His T 23 finish in the desert was his only finish out of the top 3, and probably due to his rib injury.
In reality, Snedeker’s game is at the high end of the second tier of players, and the Florida Swing would have given him the opportunity to take his career, and game to another level. He needs to compete with the best players in the world at these world class events, and show us if he is ready for Major Championship Sundays competing against Tiger, Phil, Rory, and Graeme.
Maybe Brandt Snedeker can get back on tour with some time left to get the rust off of his game before we get to Masters Week. I think this guy can bring it with the best of them.
He is very consistent, and long off the tee, posses a great short game, and we all know what he can do with the flat stick. All that’s left for him at this stage in his career, is a Major Championship on his resume. I would be surprised if he were able to get ready to make a run at a Green Jacket, but By the time we get to Merion in June, he should be ready for a legitimate run.
