Bubba Watson hasn’t hoisted a trophy since his success at the 2012 US Masters, but the big hitting left-hander gets his chance to snap the streak tomorrow when he tees it up in the final round of the 2013 Travelers Championship where he sits atop of the leaderboard with Graham DeLaet & Charley Hoffman at -10.
Watson has struggled for form so far in 2013, but returning to TPC River Highlands the scene of his 2010 Travelers Championship success has the 33-year-old in prime position to win his second title at the course.
An even par third round on Saturday was enough for Watson to hold the lead he has enjoyed for much of the tournament, but it was a sloppy finish recording 3 bogeys on the back nine after shooting a 32 on the front side. Joining him at the close of play was DeLaet and Hoffman who shot rounds of -5 and -4 respectively.
“I hit some shots today that were really good, quality shots,” Watson said. “I got a couple bad breaks here and there, but that’s golf. At the end of the day I still have a chance on Sunday and that’s what we’re always looking for.”
Multiple time British Open winner, Padraig Harrington slipped down the leaderboard with a 2-over round but only sits 4 shots behind the pace. Australian Nick O’Hern is in a tie for 4th place with Chris Stroud at -9 for the tournament.
The question remains who will have the bigger Sunday? Will we see Watson return to the winners circle, can DeLaet who is raising money for the floods in Alberta, Canada win his maiden PGA Tour title, can Hoffman make amends for his ‘choke’ on the 71st hole of the tournament last year, or will the winner not come from the final group?
