After spending a season free of football because of “Bounty Gate” you had to know New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton found other things to do. Afterall, he wasn’t allowed any communication, or contact with football, so it looks like he found a new career. With NFL training camps getting underway this month, and Payton’s year-long ban coming to an end, why not apply for a new job, just in case the New Orleans Saints gig doesn’t work out.
Turns out, Associated Press, and The NFL Network are reporting The head man in New Orleans is friends with Professional Golfer, Ryan Palmer. Payton and Palmer met in Dallas, and when the tour visits New Orleans for the Zürich Classic every year, the two get together for a few cold ones, and a round of golf.
Payton is in White Sulphur Springs at The Greenbrier Resort this week resting up for the upcoming season, and was asked by Palmer, if he wanted to caddie for him during the Greenbrier Classic. One thing led to another, and coach will be on Ryan Palmer’s bag this week. After two practice rounds, the Saints head man has decided being a caddie is hard work.
“I know what game week feels like for me in the fall, and I know what it will feel like for him and what it does feel like for all these golfers,” Payton said. “Just to be invisible as a caddie and do your job and be supportive, those are the things that I look at as being important for me this week.”
To which Palmer added jokingly: “Just shut up and keep up. That’s it.”
If Payton can pick up some pointers this week on Ryan Palmer’s bag, I hear that Jessica Korda on the LPGA Tour is looking for a new caddie, and who knows, maybe Bubba Watson will have an opening soon. I would love to see Bubba blow up at Sean Payton and throw a fit like he did at The Travelers. The only question would be….which fairway Payton would plant him in.
