While the scorecard may have said that Jonas Blixt was the winner at the Greenbrier Classic, the real winner was the Greenbrier Resort.
All week long, players were treated to excellent conditions both on and off the course.
Four rounds of challenging golf? Check. A multitude of outdoor activities in wild and wonderful West Virginia? Check. Rock legends to serenade everyone on America’s birthday? You better believe it.
This past week’s Greenbrier Classic featured skeet shooting, fly fishing, off-roading, Aerosmith, and the warm hospitality you’d expect from country folks. And while you most likely couldn’t make it to Greenbrier last weekend, this is good news for you.
As Jason Sobel of the Golf Channel points out, this tournament is going to get bigger. While we often think of Tour pros as pampered, the PGA Tour season is a grind. Hours and hours of practice, travel, pressure, and the list goes on. The little extras at the Greenbrier, set against a picturesque landscape will attract better fields. The crowds will grow. And the Greenbrier is a place that can handle it.
As a golf fan (and someone who lives a few hours from the resort) I am excited to see how this tournament will evolve in the coming years. It should be a staple on the Tour for years and I cannot wait.
