With three of Golf’s Major Championships in the books for the 2013 season, Tiger Woods is still stuck on 14. He has only one more opportunity this year to move a number that hasn’t changed since 2008. Woods needs four major wins to tie Jack Nicklaus‘ record, and five to set a new one with his name on it. It’s only two weeks until we go to Oak Hill, and do we think Tiger can get at least one this year?
With what we saw at Muirfield last week, do we head into the PGA Championship in two weeks with Tiger Woods being the favorite? I think he will be the number one pick, only because no one wants to be the dumbass who didn’t have him as number one in their Fantasy Picks if he is physically able to swing a golf club. I don’t have him as the favorite on my short list, and I think we will have to wait until yet another Masters for number 15.
The Open Championship saw nine players with major championship pedigree tee off on Sunday within a couple of shots of the lead. Tiger didn’t fare well with all of that talent in the mix for the final round. He isn’t the dominating player we saw at Torrey Pines in 2008 that could make-up any shot he needed in order to win.
I had written in a blog earlier in the year, that if Tiger Woods didn’t win at least one major in 2013, he would never beat Jack’s record 18 major wins. He has one more chance at Oak Hill to get that win, and if he doesn’t win, I think the quest is over. I’m sorry Ricky Potts, I don’t see it happening this year, and don’t think 19 majors is ever going to be in Tiger’s future.
