How about a little trivia as we get going this morning? Who won the first Barclays in 1967, back then it was called the Westchester Classic ? I’ll bet the picture gave the answer away. One more thing that Jack Nicklaus has done that Tiger Woods has not done, win a Barclays. Until 2007, the Barclays was played at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York. As the tournament became part of the Fed Ex Cup playoff system, they have dropped Westchester, and the Barclays is now played on a four course rotation. It was played last year at Bethpage Black, and was last played at Liberty in 2009.
Liberty National Golf Club is a new course that was reclaimed from a garbage dump by Tom Kite, and Robert Cupp. Although the venue has breath-taking views of the New York skyline, and the Statue of Liberty, the players were less than thrilled with it in 2009 when the first Barclays was played here. Reports are that it has gotten a thumbs-up this year. We’ll see how they feel about it on Sunday afternoon.
Although Tiger Woods has won two FedEx Cup titles, in 2007 and 2009, he has never won the Barclays. He comes into the tournament, and the playoffs as the favorite, but do we really expect him to win at Liberty National this weekend? Maybe he’s setting us up for the reason he won’t be hoisting a trophy on Sunday afternoon. Jason Sobel at the Golf Channel gives us a full report.

I thought Jason wanted to retire now that he won a major championship along with a backpack full of money. I’m only guessing now he wants more. His game appears to be on-track,so why not a FedEx Cup title and a very big bag of money?
