Jason Dufner won’t have to worry about his beloved Auburn Tigers this weekend, and he won’t have to deal with Tiger Woods as he tees it up against an interesting field at the Franklin Templeton Shootout. This three-day event that used to be called The Shark Shootout gets underway on Friday at the Tiburon Golf Course in Naples, Florida and features a unique mix of players, and a hefty purse of just over $ 3 Million Dollars with the winner pocketing $375,000.
The field consists of stars from the past, playing with current stars from the PGA and European Tours. Of course we will see the host, Greg Norman, as well as Kenny Perry, Chris DiMarco, Mark Calcavecchia, and Scott Verplank from the Champions Tour, taking on the likes of Dustin Johnson, Jason Dufner, and Billy Horschel.
The 24 player field also includes Canadians, Mike Wier, Graham DeLaet, and aging veterans, Lee Westwood, and Steve Stricker. Matt Kucher, and Ian Poulter will be playing as well. There is nothing on the line here but some prize money, but in my opinion, has a pretty good lineup of players. It might well be worth some time, while the wife is doing some Christmas shopping.
This made-for television tournament features two-man teams in a non-point event. The 2012 winners, Kenny Perry and Sean OHair will defend. Curtis Strange and Mark O’Meara won the inaugural championship in 1989.
The Franklin Templeton Shootout will air on the Golf Channel starting at 1:00PM on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with NBC taking over at 2:00 PM Saturday and Sunday to the finish. All times are Eastern Standard Time(EST).
