The 12 days of Christmas are almost over, but the 12 days of Golf start today. That’s right, it’s only 12 days until the Hyundai Tournament of Champions gets underway at The Kapalua Golf Course on Maui, and our Ricky Potts from the Golf Community is on his way to the 50th state with a press pass. With a rare Friday start, the first PGA event of the new year will end up on the following Monday barring another wind storm.
Dustin Johnson is you’re defending champion for this kick-off event, and fans will be asked to vote on the the first round pairings. From now through Dec. 30, voting will take place on PGATOUR.COM’s Social Hub to determine who will be paired with defending champion.
Being a solid College Football, and NFL Fan with little interest in the NBA, the start of the new 2014 PGA season is starting at the right time. With a full schedule in January, after the TOC, the tour moves to Oahu for the Sony Open in Honolulu, then on to California for the West Coast swing.
We get the Humana Challenge, which used to be the old Bob Hope Desert Classic, on to Torrey Pines for the Farmers Insurance Open, and ends the month in Phoenix for the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
With an active European Tour schedule in January that includes the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, it will be a busy month. We should get a nice field in Abu Dhabi that includes a host of top ten players including Tiger Woods, Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, and Rory McIlroy.
We will undoubtedly see Tiger at the Farmers Insurance to defend his 2012 title, and his first of five wins last year.
The field is set for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, and include the following:
With Golf Community Moderator, Ricky Potts on the ground in Maui and a press pass, expect to see reports, and a Friday Foursome live from the action. With any luck, he will get to talk to some interesting people, and there should be some interesting post in the community.
