According to Tigers Woods via his blog on December 19th which is available at TigerWoods.com, and PGATour.com, he is putting the clubs away for a while to support girlfriend Lindsey Vonn while she prepares for the Olympics. He is looking forward to the 2014 season, and the in particular, the majors season as he attempts to catch and surpass Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors.
Tiger is especially excited about the new Nike Covert 2.0 Driver, and what it brings to his game. As we have seen in the past couple of years, when Tiger is in the fairway off of the tee, he is wining golf tournaments. He has spent the last year, honing his wedge game, and was deadly in 2013 when he was looking at the flag with a wedge in his hand. Then it all came down to rolling the ball in the hole.
After some practice with the new driver, he seems to be getting more distance, and accuracy from the club. With three of the four majors coming at courses where he has won before, the odds are pretty good that we may see #15 sometime in 2014.
I’m really looking forward to next year. I played well at the end of this year, so it’s nice to have some momentum heading into 2014. I thought I was pretty consistent throughout the year, starting off at Torrey Pines and ending on a positive note at Sherwood, where I finished second to Zach. I think my body of work overall for the whole year was pretty good. I also found a new Nike driver, VRS Covert 2.0 Tour, that I’m really excited about. I drove the ball a little further and definitely straighter than I have been all year.
We should get a first look at Tiger’s new driver early in the season during January. Tiger is scheduled to tee it up against the best that the European Tour has to offer at Abu Dhabi next month, and he should be in Torrey Pines to defend his 2013 win later in the month. The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship gets underway on January 16th, and The Farmers Insurance Open the following week on January 23rd. You can find the full PGA tour schedule from TicketCity.
If the conclussion of the Northwestern Mutual was any indication for what is to come in 2014, I can’t wait. With Tiger playing well, Rory McIlroy on the comeback trail, and the emergence of Henrik Stenson, the 2014 season is setting up to be the “Perfect Storm” for what possibly could be the “Perfect Season”. Add all of the young, and older golfers who are playing well right now and we should be on the verge of a great 2014 golf season.
