In a January 1st announcement on the Adams Golf Website, four-time Major Champion, Ernie Els signs an equipment deal with Adams Golf. The Big Easy wrote that he is “so excited about joining Adams,” in a blog post that appeared yesterday on the company’s website along with a marketing blitz that includes the 19-time PGA Tour winner.
Els also said in his blog that the company is finalizing his specification so he can be ready to tee it up at the Qatar Masters later this month.
“Right now we’re working hard to finalize the configuration and exact specs of my set, focusing specifically on the Tight Lies fairway metals and XTD irons and hybrids,” wrote Els, ranked No. 27 in OWGR. “Really can’t wait now to use them in competitive play later this month at the Qatar Masters.”
An Associated Press article that was published on the GolfWeek website pointed out that three of the four majors Els won were with different club manufacturers.
Els has won three majors with different equipment companies, the Associated Press reported: Lynx (1994 U.S. Open), TaylorMade (1997 U.S. Open and 2002 British Open) and Callaway (2012 British Open). The South African and Hall of Famer finished T-11 at the WGC-HSBC Champions in November.
The 44 year-old Els hasn’t won a tournament on the PGA Tour since his 2012 Open Championship at Royal Lythm. He made only 14 cuts in 19 tournaments and had one top 10 finish, that coming at the US Open at Merion. He finished 82nd in FedEx Cup points in 2013, and had an 11th place finish in his only 2014 start at the WGC-HSBC Champions back in November.
