PGA Tour: Bubba Watson Withdraws After First Round At Bay Hill

Citing problems with his allergies on his Twitter account, Bubba Watson joined Tiger Woods, and Jason Day as the third top player to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Thursday. The 2012 Masters Champ turned in an 11 over par 83 which included big numbers at the par five sixth hole, and 18. Watson said his head was all discombobulated with the drugs he was taking for allergies and couldn’t finish the event.

Starting on the back nine, it was apparent that the 35 year-old Watson was in trouble. He was able to manage par until he made a bogey at 15. He came back with his only birdie at 16, but 18 got him for a triple bogey seven. Things got worse on the front nine with bogeys at one and two. The 11 on six was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Bubba has been playing well this spring, and after giving the Waste Management Phoenix Open away on Super Bowl Sunday, he picked his only win this year at Riviera. He finished T8 at the WGC-HSBC Championship, and a T2 at Doral earlier on the Florida Swing. He was ousted in the third round at Dove Mountain by eventual runner-up, Victor Dubuisson.
