In television commercials we’ve watched Dustin Johnson play an errant tee shot out of a wedding cake, Brandt Snedker destroy a model, and now it’s Bubba Watson’s turn. For 19 years, ESPN has run “This is SportCenter” ads as a means to let viewers get an inside look at the headquarters in Bristol and promote the world’s first all-sports news show. During Masters week we get a chance to see some antics from Bubba Watson and his caddie, Ted Scott.
The first take “Tree” is a play of the 2012 Masters Champ’s shot at the 10th green in a playoff with Louis Oosthuizen which was the highlight of the tournament when he made an impossible nine-iron shot out of the trees.
Watson, whose “miracle” shot got him out of a difficult lie and helped him win the 2012 Masters, finds himself in another tough situation when he and caddie Ted Scott encounter the Stanford Cardinal mascot inside an ESPN office building. As Watson and Scott try to decide how to proceed,SportsCenter anchor Kevin Negandhi shows them the way.
The second episode “The Pencil” features Bubba cutting regular sized pencils down to scorecard size while aggravating SportsCenter anchor Jay Harris.
ESPN will televise first and second round play in the Masters from Augusta National Golf Club from3-7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday and Friday, April 10-11.
