When you deposit a huge check from Nike, it comes with some major responsibilities. Not only do they tell you what kind of clubs you will have to play, but because they also sell a lot of clothes, you can expect them to dress you as well. It wasn’t difficult for the past 15 years because Tiger Woods was the top dog at Nike, and because of his popularity and physique, it was easy. With Tiger on the sidelines for the 2014 Masters, the job has been passed on to the number two guy, Rory McIlroy.
Rory is a great kid, and one heck of a golfer, but let’s face the facts, he isn’t Tiger. With his mop of curly hair, and all of those freckles I’m sure he has caused some sleepless nights for the troops at Nike to come up with something that will look good on this kid. But fear not, they have got it done.
Golf.com released an article on their website yesterday entitled :
If you’ve been waiting with anticipation to see what Rory will wear at Augusta, the wait’s over. According to the folks at Nike, Rory will be wearing one of their “key styles,” of the season, the Lightweight Innovation Color polo ($75), all four days. Features of the shirt include bonded shoulder seams, laser-cut armholes, placket, and pocket, and perforated collar for enhanced breathability and cooling.
“These polos are really lightweight and comfortable,” says McIlroy. “I like that I know how it’s going to feel day to day, and there’s no distracting seams or material – I can just focus on my game.”
You can bet that if Rickie Fowler is around for Sunday at Augusta, he will be looking like he just came from a home game in Stillwell. For the other three days, including the Par Three Contest on Wednesday, I have provided a pic from a twitter so you can easily find him on any given day as he makes his way through Amen Corner.
