Charley Hull is looking good to make a charge at the Ladies European Tour Turkish Airlines Ladies Open this week at National Golf Club in Belek, Antalya, Turkey.  Hull, 2013 LET Rookie of the Year, is having a terrific season.  The globe-trotting teenager finished in a tie for 11th place at the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open, then in a 10th place tie at the Volvik RACV Ladies Masters and, although she missed the cut at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, her third event in as many weeks, she then claimed her first 2014 victory at the Lalla Meyrem Cup in Morocco.

Hull then took her  seemingly casual “hit the ball, go find it, hit it again” philosophy and her powerful ball-striking that’s been characterized as “controlled violence” to the big stage of the LPGA.  It worked.  She finished 7th at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, well above Lydia Ko, the other teen phenom who’s taking the women’s golf world into the next generation.   (Ko finished the Kraft Nabisco in a tied 29th before she went on to claim her first 2014 win at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic.)

The 18-year-old Solheim Cup star who outplayed American Paula Creamer in their singles match last summer in Parker, Colorado, has previously finished the Turkish Airlines Ladies Open in 5th place as a 16-year old amateur in 2012 and then tied for second last year, ending a stroke behind the winner Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa.

Hull’s spent the past week at home practicing and relaxing, and says she’s ready for her third appearance in Turkey and, with typical teenaged enthusiasm, for the party.

I like the golf course. I think it’s going to be tight and I think if you play well you can go low, but the past few years the scores have been high . . .  I’m looking forward to relaxing as well, as the hotels are really good in Turkey and it will be a fun tournament.

The current Ladies European Tour ISPS HANDA Order of Merit leader, Hull is establishing an international reputation as a world-class golfer who plays easily and comfortably on many venues of the world stage.

The Turkish Airlines Ladies Open is the sixth tournament on the 2014 Ladies European Tour schedule and features an international field of 126 golfers from 32 different countries, including four amateurs from Turkey. Leading players in the field include former winners Lee-Anne Pace (2013) and Melissa Reid (2010), Gwladys Nocera, Laura Davies, Holly Clyburn, Diana Luna, Trish Johnson and Sophie Gustafson.

Media Coverage

All four rounds will be televised live by international broadcasters including Sky Sports 4, Sport TV Golfe, AB Golf/GC, Sportklub Golf and Golf Channel. The tournament will also be shown live on the LET YouTube channel in countries where the event is not being televised with daily highlights also available.
