America’s top golfer, Stacy Lewis, was the LDG fantasy pick to win for the Kingsmill Championship. Coming to the first tee with her runaway victory at the North Texas LPGA Shootout, poised to bump Inbee Park off the top of the Rolex Rankings, currently leading in the year-long, million dollar Race to the CME Globe, Lewis is a good pick. She’s entered and made the cut in all nine Tour events, finished inside the top-10 8 times in addition to her Texas victory, and with $833K in the bank this year, is leading the Tour in winnings. But it’s not the world rankings or the money that has Lewis’s attention.
My No. 1 goal is to win tournaments. Obviously the rankings and the Money List, everything like that takes care of itself. The goal doesn’t change: win tournaments.
LDG players also picked three additional players to win or make the cut: Rolex Ranked no. 26 Jessica Korda, Christina Kim, who’s ranked 111th, and Ryann O’Toole, who’s ranked 244th.
Korda, won the Tour’s season opener in January, the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic, but missed the cut at the last two events, the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic and the North Texas LPGA Shootout. Perhaps the LDG players have an inside track, but Korda doesn’t look as strong as this pick would suggest.
Christina Kim had a slow start to her season but her tied 6th place finish at the North Texas LPGA Shootout may signal a turnaround for her season.
Ryann O’Toole’s also an interesting pick. She’s entered 7 Tour events this year and made the cut three times. On the face of it, those aren’t good odds. But with a closer look, the picture shifts. O’Toole also had a slow start. She missed the cut in the early events, but has played the weekend in the last three events. Perhaps she’ll do it again this weekend in Virginia. She started with a birdie on the first hole!
First round play’s in progress now and Golf Channel will provide a delayed broadcast of today’s round beginning at 8:30pm Eastern Time tonight.
