Rickie Fowler Preparing for UK Double

Rickie Fowler, a player that is on the list of many to be one of the next super stars on the PGA Tour, took to twitter recently to let everyone know he had arrived at Royal Aberdeen in preparation for competing in both the Scottish Open and Open Championship.

Fowler, who has not teed it up since his tie for second at the US Open in June, is hoping to improve on his last two trips across the pond.

After finishes of T14 (2010) and T5 (2011), the 25-year old California kid has gone T31 (2012) and missed the cut in last year’s Open Championship.

Fowler, who has had a mini slump of sorts since The Players, where he had not finished inside the top-15 until his T13 finish at the FedEx St. Jude Classic — Is looking to shake the back-to-back missed cuts at Colonial and Memorial and get back to form in the UK.

Currently sitting in the No. 6 position in the current Ryder Cup standings, I’m sure Fowler also has his mind on getting in some links style prep work prior to the Ryder Cup in September.

Do you believe Fowler is a legitimate contender at the Scottish Open and The Open Championship?

Double?? You mean double bogey? Fowler is the King of the double and triple bogeys. No chance of a win this year let alone a Major.

Gus – I did not mean he was going to win the ‘UK Double’ as Mickelson did. I was referring to his preparing for the ‘UK Double’.

Actually, Fowler has been playing quite well in majors this season. Top-5′s in both the Masters and US Open so far. And, he played well in The Open in 2011 in some brutal weather. Though I tend to agree with you on not winning a major this year.
