Stacy Lewis and Paula Creamer stopped by the LPGA Media Center at Caves Valley today to chat about how they’re feeling as the countdown to Thursday’s tee time at the International Crown gets closer. Lewis and Creamer report that Team USA (#USA) is having a great time working together and apparently they’re doing a lot of their strategic planning over common meals!
Team USA will face off against Chinese Taipei on Thursday in the first round of four-ball matches. Lewis and Lexi Thompson will team up to take on Yani Tseng and Pheobe Yao and Creamer is paired with Cristie Kerr against Candi Kung and Teresa Lu.
Team USA Coming in Hot
World ranked number 1 Stacy Lewis would probably be anybody’s first pick for a match play teammate. She’s leading in the year-long Race to the CME Globe, has 13 top-10 finishes, three of them victories and four more runner-ups, and leads the Tour in putts per GIR (1.746), scoring average (69.258), rounds under par (53), birdies recorded in 2014 (287).
Fifth ranked Lexi Thompson, bringing seven top-10s that include her victory at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, is the longest off-the-tee hitter on Tour, and her short game’s gotten increasingly stronger during the first half of the 2014 season.
Tenth-ranked Cristie Kerr, with 17 years’ experience playing on the Tour, is the veteran on Team USA. Kerr’s represented the United States on seven Solheim Cup teams and the depth of her match play understanding, the strategic nuances involved in winning the match, will give the top-seeded Team USA an additional advantage this week.
Twelfth-ranked Paula Creamer fills out Team USA. Playing her ninth year on the Tour, Creamer’s known for her persistent competitive spirit. She, too, brings deep experience in match play to Team USA. She’s represented the United States on five Solheim Cup teams.
Team USA says they’re ready for the challenge!
