2014 Senior British Open: Bernhard Langer Leads By 8 Heading Into Sunday

Bernhard Langer came into Saturday with a 7-stroke advantage and heading into Sunday he’ll have an 8-stroke advantage. Langer played another quality round of golf as he shot a 3-under 68. Rick Gibson, who started off the day at 1-under par shot up the leaderboard with a 5-under 66 to move into solo 2nd place 8 shots behind Langer. Bob Tway shot a 3-under 68 and is in solo 3rd place at 5-under par for the tournament.

Scott Dunlap had a big round as he shot a 6-under 65 to propel him up in a tie for 4th place; tied with Tom Watson and Chris G. Williams at 4-under par for the tournament. Williams, who started the day in a tie for second place couldn’t get much going as he shot level par for the round.

Tied with Williams was Colin Montgomerie who struggled as he shot a 1-over par for the round. Montgomerie who had won the last two majors in the Senior PGA Championship and Senior U.S. Open won’t win three majors in a row this year.

Tied with Montgomerie at 3-under par for the tournament is Fred Couples and Barry Lane. Couples, who started the day at even par, shot a 3-under 68 and Lane shot a 2-under 69. In solo 10th place is Jeff Sulman, who shot a 4-under 66 to get himself to 2-under for the tournament.

Miguel Angel Martin and Tom Pernice Jr. who are one under for the tournament, round out the 12 golfers that are under par heading into Sunday.

While Dunlap had the second biggest round of the day, it was  Philip Walton who had the low round of the day as he shot a 7-under 64. Walton got himself back to even par for the tournament and in a tie for 13th. Walton is tied alongside Steve Pate.

Other notables:

Kirk Triplett shot an even round to stay at 2-over for the tournament in a tie for 20th. Miguel Angel Jimenez is tied for 27th at 4-over par. Miguel Angel Jimenez struggled shooting a 3-over 74 to move into a T-27 and 4-over par for the tournament. Fred Funk is 7-over par in a tie for 52nd.

Barring anything crazy happening it looks as though Langer will win the 2014 Senior British Open which will make it his 4th Champions Tour Major championship.
