2014-2015 PGA Tour Season: Predicting The Fall Swing Winners

facebooktwitterreddit

As the short lived PGA Tour off-season comes to an end this Thursday I’ve decided to do something fun and predict all the winners in the PGA Tour this season. We’ll start with the fall swing and continue to work our way through the tournaments for the next couple of weeks are so.

We’ll see what happens and as we progress throughout the year we’ll keep track and see how well we did. So, without further ado, let’s get to it, and also the schedule is courtesy of PGA.com so you can go there and check out the rest of the PGA Tour schedule.

More from Golf News

October 6-12: Frys.com Open

Silverado Resort and Spa, Napa, California

Winner: Jason Kokrak

This year’s Frys.com Open will take place, for the first time, at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California. So, there’s no course history to go on, but what we do know is that the Frys.com Open has produced, for the most part, winners you really wouldn’t expect.

When you take a look at the past winners since 2007 you’ve had Jimmy Walker last year, Jonas Blixt, Bryce Molder, Rocco Mediate, Troy Matteson, Cameron Beckham, and Mike Weir.

Jimmy Walker ended up having a historic breakout year, and Blixt is a young, up-and-coming golfer. The others are professional PGA Tour players. Meaning golfers you wouldn’t expect to win at a tournament with a lot of prestige and with a field that features the big name players.

So, with all that said I’m going with Jason Kokrak. He’s a talented golfer, but one most people might not expect. I think Kokrak fits the profile and I think he’ll have a pretty big year starting with a win at the Frys.com Open.

October 13-19: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas, Nevada

Winner: Brendan Steele

Brendan Steele is a very quality PGA golfer. He’s not one of the big name golfers, but Steele is usually in the thick of things early in tournaments like this. The fields are weaker and Steele takes advantage of it. Not only that, but he does compete every now and again in some of the tougher fields.

Plus, Steele has a good history here finishing T-57, T-13, and T-16 the last three years. Steele is a good player, but he hasn’t won in three years. He’s about due for a victory and I say he wins at TPC Summerlin.

October 20-26: McGladrey Classic

Sea Island Resort, St. Simons Island, Georgia

Winner: Harris English

Harris English got off to such a hot start last year, but as the tournaments got bigger and the fielders got deeper, English disappeared. English will look to rectify that this year, but I believe he will duplicate his early success from last year and I’m picking him to win the McGladrey Classic.

It’s a familiar course in his backyard and in the last couple of years he finished T-27 and T-15. Also, last year, the winner of the McGladrey Classic was Chris Kirk. If English wins, it will be back-to-back wins for the Georgia Bulldogs and English wouldn’t mind replicating the kind of year Kirk had last year.

October 27-November 2: CIMB Classic

Kuala Lampur G & CC, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia

Winner: Lee Westwood

Fun fact: An American has won at the CIMB Classic every year since the tournament established in 2010. However, I think the trend will end this year. I’ve got Lee Westwood winning this one for a couple of different reasons. One: Westwood looked good at the Ryder Cup and losing 20+ pounds will only help his game. Westwood may have one more year in him.

Two: Westwood’s last win was at the KLGCC via the Malaysian Open. And three: Westwood will be participating in this event as he has already made his commitment.

After a really tough year last year, I think Westwood will bounce back this year. Westwood played in a lot of tournaments and may not have been 100% in them mentally. Physically, he’s gotten more dedicated and scaling back his schedule will only help him. I’m looking for Westwood to have a really nice 2014-2015 year.

November 3-9: WGC-HSBC Champions

Sheshan International | Shanghai, China.

Winner: Sergio Garcia

I was going to take a chance and pick Bubba Watson as the winner, but I’m going with the safer pick in Sergio Garcia.  Garcia is more likely to travel to Shanghai, China to play the WGC-HSBC Champions. Garcia has had a lot of success at Sheshan and coming off a great year last year, I think he keeps that momentum up and wins at the WGC-HSBC Champions.

Although, if Bubba Watson does travel and play look out for Bubba. Sheshan is a wide open bombers course and Bubba finished in the top ten last year. It fits his eye, but since it takes place in China, Bubba may not travel all the way over there. But, anyway, I’m taking Sergio Garcia as my pick.

November 10-16: OHL Classic at Mayakoba

El Camaleon Golf Club, Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Winner: Scott Brown

Scott Brown is one of the most accurate players on Tour, but one of the shortest as well. However, at El Camaleon that plays into Brown’s hands. El Camaleon is a very short course and shorter hitters have had a lot of success in the past. Brown had success last year finishing in a tie for 16th.

That wraps things up for now and the next segment we’ll talk about is the west coast swing and keep things going from there.
