2015 Wyndham Championship Fantasy Sleeper Picks
By Danny Norris
The Wyndham Championship is the last tournament before the FedEx Cup Playoffs start. This tournament is basically a major for the golfers that really need to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Tom Hoge, Whee Kim, Luke Guthrie, Jhonatthan Vegas, among many others are on the outside looking in and really need to perform well this week.
For someone like Martin Kaymer who is on the outside, I’m sure he wants to qualify for the playoffs, but if he doesn’t it’s not that big of a deal.
Same with Charl Schwartzel. Right now he would qualify as the last golfer to make it. He’s playing this week because he wants to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs as well, but if he doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world.
So, in that regard, seeing some of the lower tier golfers playing for their livelihoods is exciting to watch. You know that they are going to really try and do the best they can.
From a fantasy perspective, this is a pretty weak field (better than usual, however) and the salaries are pretty soft. It’s very easy putting together a lineup. As is usually the case, it’s all about how you want to structure your lineup, putting this golfer with this team, this one over here, so on and so forth.
As I mentioned, though, the salaries are pretty soft and there are a lot of golfers in that mid-tier price and below that are pretty valuable. For this week, I don’t really see the point in paying up for someone like Adam Scott who (for some reason) is the most expensive golfer on DraftKings.
Which is why this weeks Wyndham Championship fantasy sleeper picks article is kind of difficult. There are a lot of golfers I like and it’s tough to narrow it down. I’ve got four I’ll mention, but it just seems small this week.

I don’t know, maybe we’ll start evolving our weekly get together and expend it further with more information. Maybe we’ll start doing that next year. If you guys like that idea you can state that using the comments below.
Anyway, before we get into all that, let’s talk about the course and the statistics to target. Sedgefield Country Club is hosting the Wyndham Championship and it isn’t that long. Distance is much of a factor.
The big key is to not bleed strokes on the green. Finding golfers that avoid 3-putting on these greens will be huge. Golfers that are confident with the putter and can knock it close to the hole with their irons will be what to watch for this week.
Last year, Camillo Villegas won and his ball-striking was excellent for the week. He hit 76% of his fairways (T-5), hit 77% of greens in regulation (T-8), and his proximity to hole was about 29 feet (T-7). The winner this week will, more than likely, have stats that reflect what Villegas did last year.
Now, let’s get into the under-the-radar targets for this week.
Colt Knost– Colt Knost checks off everything we are looking for. Is he accurate off the tee? Yes, Knost is 6th in driving percentage. Does he hit greens in regulation? Yes, Knost hits 68% of GIR and he knocks it close to the pin ranking 8th on Tour in proximity to hole. And finally, does he avoid three putting? Yes, Knost is 7th on Tour in 3-putt avoidance.
Knost does everything we are looking. Now, he just has to do it this week. He has been doing it all season long, let’s just hope he doesn’t have a bad tournament this week.
Knost is in rock solid form making the cut in five of his last six tournaments and he is coming off a feel good T-10 at the Barracuda Championship. Knost will be on my team(s) this week as he is a very cheap, high value pick.
Hudson Swafford- Did you know that Hudson Swafford is the second best golfer on Tour? Yep, he is. He and Will Wilcox have been battling it out all season long. That’s what the statistics say at least.
Every week it seems as if Swafford checks out, but he never performs up to that level. Swafford hits 68% of GIR, 29th Strokes Gained: Putting, he ranks 25th in birdie average, 34th in eagles, 8th in total driving, 14th in ball striking, 11th in proximity to hole, and 48th in 3-putt avoidance.
Yet, after all those impressive statistics, Swafford only has one top ten. And that was at the very first event of the year at the Frys.com Open. Swafford is a solid golfer, who has a ton of potential, but he just hasn’t put it together for 72 holes.
Whee Kim– Whee Kim has shown glimpses of going low at times this season. In 22 starts, Kim has finished inside the top 11 three times.
He finished T-8 at the Zurich Classic, T-3 at the Barbasol Championship, and T-11 at the Quicken Loans National which was just a couple of weeks back.
Kim did miss the cut at the Barracuda Championship which is a bit of a red flag considering that was a secondary event. The kind of event that you should go really, really low at.
Aside from that, Kim does check out stats wise. He has hit 67% of greens in regulation, he is 33rd in proximity to hole, and Kim is 22nd on Tour in 3-putt avoidance.
When you put the potential he possess to go low and his statistics, Kim might be a great value pick up this week. Plus, he will bring his best effort as he wants to earn his PGA Tour card and qualify by making the FedEx Cup Playoffs this week.
Jason Gore– If you want to get really cheap, Jason Gore might not be a bad play. Gore sits 166th in the FedEx Cup standings. He needs to perform well here to qualify for The Barclays next week.
Gore is pretty accurate off the tee hitting 66% of his fairways, and surprisingly enough he is 4th on Tour in proximity to the hole.
