Forget white and blue and red – spring’s all about vibrant color!

If you’re shopping for the complete outfit, Adidas is ready to help you put it together.

I’m very enthusiastic about Antigua’s new line of women’s Performance Collection golf shirts. They look good and they’re perfectly designed for the twisting and turning of a full golf swing. That’s a rare combination.

I took one of their polos out for a test run and was more than pleased with the high performance level. There’s nothing trendy about these minimalist polos but the fit is perfect. The poly-spandex fabric looked good at the beginning of my round and it still looked good on the 19th hole.  I really liked the open placket – no buttons to fumble around with now and replace later. I’m not Bubba Watson. I don’t button my polos, so I don’t want or need the things.

The LPGA-tested shirts come in quite an assortment of polos and sheerless polos, and a wide range of unique prints, color palettes that include beautiful jewel tones. They’re positively vibrant and there’s a wide enough range of options that you’re not likely to look up and see yourself walking off the green in the group playing in front of you. And I’m going to appreciate the Desert-Dry wicking feature when the temperature begins to rise.

You can order these polos on-line but the better option, I think, is to ask your Pro Shop to start stocking them.

Price tag: about $80

Antigua also has a nifty lightweight, lightly insulated jacket which is perfect for early morning tee times. This outerwear has a side cinch feature that allowed me to snug it down to my body. There was zero restriction and zero interference with my swing – again, a rare combination.  Add to that the water resistant fabric and you have a piece of outerwear that’s custom made for early spring golf.

Price tag: about $90

Carnoustie Sportswear, long-recognized for its high-quality men’s sportswear, also has a line of women’s sportswear that’s impressive. The same fleece outerwear that’s been a standard in the men’s line is also available for women.

I’m particularly enthusiastic about Carnoustie’s 3/4 sleeve stretch polo. Combine the soft feel with a slightly heavier fabric – it feels almost like suede but is much lighter – and it’s a must-have for those early spring rounds.

Price tag: $87

Carnoustie also has some wonderful fleece products for both women and men. The vests and pullovers are a perfect year-round weight that will keep you warm on chilly spring mornings and ward off the afternoon chill when you’re playing seaside or at higher elevations.
