The PGA Tour has released the schedule for the 2016-17 season, and there are several changes from this year’s.

The PGA Tour has released the schedule for the 2016-17 wrap-around season, so get your calendar out and be ready to mark in the dates of your favorite events. There will be 47 tournaments in all. Most are returning to their traditional spots following the Olympic year. The new season is packed with events, and there is only one week between this year’s Ryder Cup and the start of the 2016-17 campaign.

The Greenbrier Classic will return on the July 4th holiday weekend, even though floods caused the cancellation of the event this year.

There are also some new sponsors. The first event, at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California, will now be sponsored by Safeway. The final event of the fall season is the RSM Classic on Sea Island, hosted by Davis Love III.

The winter break starts after the RSM Classic and ends with the Tournament of Champions at Kapalua, which has yet to find a sponsor, beginning January 2, 2017. It is followed by the Sony Open, also in Hawaii.

The west coast swing begins in the Palm Springs market with the CareerBuilder Challenge, followed by the Farmer’s Insurance Open in San Diego. The Waste Management Phoenix Open is scheduled for the last week in January, followed by AT&T Pebble Beach.

The Genesis Open, which replaces Northern Trust as the title sponsor at Riviera Country Club, is the last west coast tournament. After that, the PGA Tour turns to Florida.

The Honda Classic will tee it up the last week of February, followed by the World Golf Championships-Mexico Championship.

The rest of the Florida swing includes Valspar in Tampa, followed by the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Dell Match Play will be contested in the last week of March, directly preceding the Houston Open.

The Masters is April 3-9. The RBC Heritage, Valero Texas Open and Zurich Classic will follow.

The Wells Fargo Championship changes sites for 2017, to Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington, North Carolina. This is because the PGA Championship will be hosted by Quail Hollow Club, the traditional Wells Fargo venue.

The Players returns to a Mother’s Day Sunday finish, ending May 14th. Two more Texas Tournaments, the AT&T Byron Nelson and the Dean & DeLuca Invitational, follow The Players.

From there it is just two weeks to the U.S. Open, with the Memorial Tournament and FedEx St. Jude as lead-in events.

The U.S. Open will be held at Erin Hills June 15-18; the Open Championship, July 20-23 at Royal Birkdale; and the PGA Championship returns to an August slot, the 10th through the 13th.

The John Deere Classic returns to its placement prior to the British Open. The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational will be the week before the PGA.

In the FedEx Cup playoffs, Northern Trust has assumed the first playoff tournament sponsorship, followed by the Deutsche Bank, which finishes on Labor Day. Then there’s a one-week break, followed by the BMW Championship at Conway Farms near Chicago and the Tour Championship in Atlanta.

There is no break between the Tour Championship and the Presidents Cup, to be held at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey.
