Forget St Andrews & Carnoustie – put Balmoral Castle golf course on your bucket list – here’s how to book your tee time.

Balmoral Castle, the British royal family’s Scottish home, is throwing open its doors – or its tee boxes, more accurately – to the public.

Balmoral Estate maintains a private 9-hole/18-tee golf course that’s feeling the pinch of a downturned economy. As a way to offset annual maintenance costs, which run about £3 millions, Balmoral has long made a few corporate tee times available, but a downturn in the North Sea oil industry has suppressed corporate usage. The solution? Open a few tee times to the public.

For a modest £50 per person – just a bit more than $60 – you can book a tee time for your favorite foursome. A round at Balmoral could be the ultimate Bucket List Golf Outing centerpiece! And at that price, you can probably also afford to pick up a properly crested golf shirt from the Balmoral gift shop after your round.

The parkland style track plays 4,825 yards/par 67 for gents and 4,459 yards/par 69 for ladies and was was constructed in 1925. The rustic club cabin provides changing rooms and toilets so you can be properly tricked out to enjoy a golf course that “meanders its way around cairns and monuments from Queen Victoria’s reign and continues beside the magnificent River Dee.”

It’s not just a round of golf on the Queen’s estate that you’ll be getting for your money. According to the Balmoral web site, your Balmoral golf outing will also include:

More from Pro Golf Now

  • Exclusive hire of the course and facilities from 8.00 a.m until 6.00 p.m.
  • Access to the grounds, gardens and exhibitions at Balmoral for no further cost.
  • Administration to help organise your day.
  • Full on site catering can also be arranged, if required. This can include breakfast on arrival, lunch in the club house and evening meal in the licensed Pipers Hall or BBQ at the Club Cabin.
  • Score cards, parking and 20% off prizes purchased from our gift shop.

Don’t take this opportunity casually. There won’t be any walk-ons at Balmoral. The Estate has set aside 26 days in 2017 when the Balmoral golf course will be open to the public, with only four tee times scheduled each day. So there probably won’t be any waiting between holes either!

The Royal family has dismissed as “rubbish” rumors that Donald Trump will be playing a round at Balmoral.
