Charley Hoffman was the big winner at last year’s Valero Texas Open, but does he have what it takes to defend his title?

It’s Texas Open time. After a run of terrific events that included the Masters, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and two World Golf Championships, we’ve hit a bit of a lull in the PGA Tour schedule. Last week’s RBC Heritage, while prestigious, usually struggles to attract top names due to its place on the calendar, and this week’s Valero Texas Open, to be held at TPC San Antonio, falls victim to the same problem.

But that’s not to say that the event won’t be fun to watch. On the contrary, the Texas Open has been consistently exciting since moving to its current location back in 2010. From Martin Laird’s win in the wind in 2013 to Steven Bowditch’s masterclass in survival golf in 2014 to the Jimmy Walker versus Jordan Spieth slugfest in 2015, the Oaks Course has seen some great moments in recent years.

Again, this week’s field isn’t the best, but there are still several prominent players in town for the event. Who’s going to rise up and take it this year? Without further ado, here are ten solid bets for success at the Valero Texas Open. Each player’s position on the FedEx Cup points list is displayed next to his name.
